I want to use thread as an element of my project. Because it can be made of many different materials and forms, and it can also represent mamy images, for example it can represent connection, it can represent bondage,it can reprent chaos, etc.

Crocheted Cocoon by Bea Camacho

These photos show scenes from a performance art piece by Bea Camacho. She calls it "Enclosure." She crocheted an cocoon for herself for 11 hours without interruption. In an interview, Camacho explained how crocheting is a way of returning home:My work deals with experiences of isolation created by physical, mental or emotional separation.

In this work thread shows isolation and closure. The author uses thread to weave a cocoon, isolating the self from the outside world and enclosing himself in the woven cocoon. The comfort zone is like a woven cocoon, and those who stay in the comfort zone isolate themselves from the outside world and immerse themselves in the illusion of comfort.

Wire sculpture/ drawing by polish born Australian artist Barbara Licha

These figures are very much trapped and caged, they seem to dancing their frustrations out before us. They are pulled by the thread and looks difficult to get out of control.

ABESENCE EMBODIED, 2018 by CHIHARU SHIOTA

Absence Embodied is a site-specific installation in Gallery 14 in the Melrose Wing at the Art Gallery of South Australia. In addition to the dense mass of red wool which forms a three-dimensional labyrinth, the installation also includes a cluster of bronze and plaster casts of the artist’s and family members’ hands and feet.

It talks about the connection between people. Sometimes the thread gets tangled, or loses tension, or is cut, much like human relationships. Relationships can become tangled, lost or severed.

I wanted to use thread to show bondage, restriction, isolation and closure, and the feeling of being trapped in a comfort zone.
