The design of space is first a mental concept and any resultant response is primarily experienced through visual perception and space can be literally ignored.
Comfort zone is also a kind of conceptual space that people set in their own mind.

It is a work I saw on the exhbition in Tokey Palace when I went to paris. It consists of several cubes fixed to the wall, and as you walk around it, it is sometimes a cube and sometimes a rectangle. The space is constantly changing as the viewing angle changes.

The Rubber House is a small pavilion, completely made out of rubber. The house can be entered, one person at a time, to retreat from the outside and to find oneself again.
So the conceptual space can be a place to find the real self.
