I began to design the first chapter of my book. In this chapter, I will explore 'what is comfort zone'.
I researched the defination of comfort zone.
In psychology, a comfort zone can be defined as a state where we feel comfortable and familiar with things we do, and where we can fully control our environment and related circumstances. As a result, people experience less stress or anxiety in their comfort zone.
Brené Brown describes it as "Where our uncertainty, scarcity and vulnerability are minimized—where we believe we'll have access to enough love, food, talent, time, admiration. Where we feel we have some control."
Bardwick defines the term as "a behavioral state where a person operates in an anxiety-neutral position."
What forms a people's comfort zone?
A person's comfort zone can be made up of three aspects:
Habits, Abilties, and Preferences.
Then I made a visualboard of people's comfort zone through the interview of poeple I made last semester.
The circle represents comfort zone we set in our mind.
Areas of expertise
Familiar living environment
Protection of family members
Fixed dietary habits
Preferred dressing style
And I want to share my own experience:
During my time studying and living abroad, I found that I always liked to stay in my comfort zone, eating basically the same food every day, buying the same items, walking the same way to school, always interacting and playing with the same people, and so on. Although staying in my comfort zone gave me a sense of control and security, the same routine gradually made me feel bored and anxious.
I used the screen print images I created before, and I cut and disrupted them to show fragments of my life in the comfort zone.
This prompted me to think about the nature behind the comfort zone; is it really comfortable? Why do people like to stay in their comfort zone? How can we solve the comfort zone dilemma?
Then I made the layout of this chapter.
